In 2022, I left my little home in Ireland to start a new adventure in Australia. After two unforgettable years filled with incredible experiences and exploration, I found myself at a crossroads. With my second-year visa ending, I had a big decision to make: what do I do next? As luck would have it, an amazing opportunity arose that led me to my next chapter: relocating to London for my dream job with Prospero.
London had always been on my radar, but it seemed like a distant dream until I received an opportunity that was too good to pass up. After working in childcare in various roles for over seven years, I transitioned to a new role with Prospero Teaching as an International Candidate Manager. In this position, I get to help Aussies and Kiwis educators relocate to the UK for their own dream jobs. Prospero Teaching has opportunities not only in the UK but also in Australia and New Zealand.
The excitement of this opportunity quickly mingled with the reality of moving halfway across the world. August 2024, I will be making the big move to London solo! I had to wrap up my commitments in Australia, say goodbye to friends who had become like family, and pack up once again for a new adventure in a new country.
With the relocation to London right around the corner, I couldn't help but feel that familiar mix of excitement and fear that comes with moving to a new country. Travelling alone, making new friends, finding a new favourite coffee shop, and navigating a new city can be daunting. Luckily for me, I have done this before, and I have learned a lot along the way.
For anyone else facing these same fears, I have all the tips and tricks to help you settle in. Join a group—whether it’s a sports club, running club, or any other interest you may have. You will find like-minded people who share your passions and help you build a sense of community in your new home.
Relocating from Australia to London will be one of the most transformative decisions of my life. It is a leap of faith that will take me out of my comfort zone and into a world of new possibilities. The journey is not without its challenges, but I know the rewards will be incredible.
London will provide me with a platform to grow both personally and professionally, and I am grateful for this very exciting opportunity.
So, if you’re thinking of making the move from Australia or New Zealand like me, follow along for the journey—there is a lot more to come!
