What is a SEN TA?

A SEN TA is tasked with assisting a classroom teacher with mentally challenged children who need extra support in order to keep behavioural control or support in terms of class/general schoolwork. Depending on the circumstance, you may be required to work on a 1-1 basis or in small groups.

Are the working hours similar to that of a teacher?

The working hours are generally the stereotypical school working hours. Although, you could be asked to stay overtime after the day has ended to help the teacher with marking or planning lessons. Most teaching assistants only work during term-time, but may be required to go on training courses during holidays.
