You may have thought that Prospero Teaching is just about… umm… teaching. Well you’d be wrong!

Our International Team is also here to make sure that our overseas teachers have an easy time settling in London and enjoying the city once they are here. A big part of our service is to offer assistance with the many things that teachers need to set up once they arrive, including:

  • Opening a bank account
  • Finding accommodation
  • Applying for a National Insurance number
  • Getting a mobile phone
  • Registering with an umbrella company
  • Applying for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Buying an Oyster Card as well as tips on how to use the London public transport system
  • Advice on activities around London, travelling to Europe etc

We also organise social events for our teachers. These provide an excellent opportunity not only for our teachers to meet in an informal setting with our consultants, but also for our teachers to meet each other! We have seen many of our teachers meet at our social events, become friends, and then use our future social events as a good opportunity to meet each other again. Some even meet potential flatmates as well as pooling their resources in order to find a flat.

At the end of September we held our first social event for this 2015/16 school year by booking the entire upstairs floor at our favourite local pub, The Charterhouse in Farringdon. With over 40 overseas teachers in attendance, and free drinks, the evening was an overwhelming success. Most of the attendees had arrived in London during August and had just experienced their first few weeks of UK teaching, so there was much to discuss… Stories were swapped, classes compared, and friends were made.

Our social calendar will continue and we’ll be busy over the next few weeks planning a Christmas party to thank our excellent teachers and welcome them further into the Prospero Community at a time of year when thoughts inevitably drift back to home. We have big plans to expand our social calendar soon, with lots of creative ideas flowing here in the office – so watch this space!
